Two large residential towers are planned for Mount Vernon Street under Cambridge's Affordable Housing Overlay (AHO) — a 6-story, 29-unit building and a 12-story, 76-unit building, totaling 105 new units served by just 5 on-site parking spaces.

Because these projects qualify as "as-of-right" under the AHO, they bypass the city's normal Planning Board review and approval process. That means the unit count and building height are largely locked in — but traffic mitigation, on-street parking, open space, and building design are still very much in play.

We support affordable housing on our street. We also want a say in how it's built. Mount Vernon Street Neighbors is a resident-led group working to make sure our voice is heard by the developer and the city — on traffic and loading impacts, on-street parking pressure, and whether the design fits our neighborhood.
